Not sure whether it's more or less successful than things like pokemon... but I'm confident it's up there as one of the most popular of all time. I liked DBZ when I was younger... but I watch different anime now. Early DBZ was very good honestly, but as it progresses it just turns into one crazy japanese man shouting 'Nya' louder and for longer until the other is out of breath.
