Poem: It only takes a minute

(Let me know what you think, any suggestions are welcome)

It only takes a minute, a minute to care, so why weren't you there?

Leaving me alone, even though we were sharing the same air

It only takes a second, a second to realise, that I was drowning.

You promised me; you said you’d save me, that you’d be there.

That I’d never have to fight them on my own

Bringing me down, they’d forever stay around, attacking in silence.

It only takes a moment, a moment to lose everything we shared.

It makes me wonder, did you even ever really care?

It only takes a day, a day for you to stray,

Promising me forever, but unable to deliver.

I only wanted your help; I only wanted you to see,

To understand the fight I had going on inside of me.

It only takes a week, a week to become so weak, fragile so to speak.

Slowly but surely I was losing the fight,

While you simply sat there and smiled at me asking if I was alright.

It only takes a month, a month to forget how we even met.

It no longer mattered to you, just as long as you thought I never knew

The reasons for you staying by my side, wasting your time

It only takes a year, a year for me to disappear, wearing away at the seams.

I realised that I was blind, but so where you.

It only takes a lifetime to regret, but I’m glad we’d met

If I’d helped you sooner, perhaps you’d have been there for me

I can only hope that someone is there for you in the end,

Time is a fleeting thing and you’ve got a tough fight on your hand, I know.
