So many years spent dreaming --

So much precious time was wasted.

The memories preserved

In the ice and salt I tasted.

Turn to me now,

This is what I waited for.

I've been around for eighteen years --

Why should I care about one more?

Now the darkness closes in,

And vision fades to black.

Good -- now I can't see

The things I wanted to take back.

If time is so damn holy,

And you want more of it to spend;

Then you'll be rich and happy,

And I'll be poor until the end.

The sun's rays keep me warm,

And the birds don't sing in rain.

But I still feel better knowing

That blood flows through my veins.

I don't expect your understanding,

Or even your sympathy.

I don't want or care for either,

I just want you to let me be.

I tried, and in my hand,

My naked heart I still hold.

I found more solace in my loneliness,

Than the tales of love had told.

Too many days pretending,

And too many nights were not alone.

The pain subsided more

The less caring I have grown.

Fine, if it's my decision --

And I wouldn't let another make it --

Then I won't ignore the feeling

That no more can I take it.

Regards,

Drew Underwood
