I had to get away.

I couldn’t let him get me. I couldn’t let any of them get me. No matter how much my legs ached, no matter how much my lungs burned for air I had to keep running. I had to just keep going. I had no idea how far or close they were behind me. I actually had no idea if they were running towards me in the distance. I had no idea about anything. All I knew was that they were after me. After my rare blood. And they were everywhere. They were always hunting me down. Always trying to lure me into their traps. Those flawless, beautiful, seductive immortals.

My parents were always there to help me. Always there to protect me, but now they’re not because of those evil bastards. They killed my parents just to get to me. They always haunted me in my dreams and also in life. Just because I had a rare blood type and that they had an uncontrollable thirst for blood. A thirst that drove them crazy enough to make them slaughter anyone they met. Seduce them, make them feel loved and then they rip you to shreds and literally feed off your blood and limbs just for their own pleasures and addictions. It gave me the creeps at how they had no emotions, how they didn’t care that they just kill and not have another thought about it. They were murderers and they were after me specifically.

I had no idea where I was going but I just ran for my life. I didn’t think. I just sprinted. I came up to some sort of forest at the end of the road and entered it without a second thought. If I could just stay away from them long enough for the sun to rise then I will be able to escape and hide again. Inside the forest was a lot darker than I thought. I could just vaguely see the trees from the moonlight and stars shining on the broken bark. The air smelled of rustic wood and dried out leaves. Now and then I would hear a crunch under my feet from the dead leaves I stepped on. It would always send me a shock up my spine because they had very good hearing. I just kept going. The sounds of dried out leaves under my feet wasn’t going to slow me down. I quickly moved my legs and moved out of the way of so many trees. All I could hear was my heavy breaths and my loud racing footsteps. They were going to hear me. They’re going to hear me and smell my scent from a mile away! Damn it! I tried to soften my steps but it was slowing my running down. If I stopped and hid they would be able to still hear my breathing and smell my scent. I couldn’t stop. I had to keep moving. I started to run in a different direction and began to run in zigzags hoping it will slow them down. I then bumped into a tree trunk I didn’t even see and fell onto the wet mossy floor.

“Shit.” I said under my breath.

My heart pounded out of my chest as I stood up and quickly continued running, dodging out of the way of almost invisible trees. I quickened my pace even though my legs were screaming out for mercy. Well they weren’t going to get that in a million years. If I took a short rest they’d be on me sooner than I could scream for help. And where was I going to get help in the middle of the forest? I’d probably had more chance in the forest than in the streets since the human population doesn’t even take up one fifth of the growing population of vampires. If the left over humans that hadn’t been captured were hiding, there would be more luck finding them in a forest or far away somewhere from town. If I came across them I bet the vampires wouldn’t even take notice of them and just run after me. Yeah those other humans would be dancing around with joy that the vampires weren’t going after them. Great life they had.

I started to see a blurry long black shape on the floor as I started to get closer to it. I quickly jumped over it but my foot clipped on a branch that was sticking out and I fell over and my face smashed onto the floor. Pain shot up through my nose and cheeks and I put my hands over my face as I moaned. I felt warm liquid oozing out of my nose and I cursed under my breath. Bleeding now is a very bad idea. The aroma of my blood will be stronger now. Shit! I wiped my hands on my shirt and slowly stood up. I wobbled a little bit since everything was spinning from the impact of smashing my head on the floor. I then heard a loud hissing noise somewhere amongst the trees. It’s them! I started to run. I had no idea where they were. The hissing and the loud footsteps echoed throughout the forest. At one moment it sounded like they were in front of me, then the next minute it sounded like they were behind me. I just kept running everywhere. Don’t panic! Don’t panic!

“I can see you…” A male voice echoed throughout the forest.

Now I’m panicking. I ran as fast as my legs would take me but I could just hear his footsteps grow faster as well. I quickly fled to my right and scanned the area. I couldn’t see them but sure as hell they could see me clear as crystal. I started to hyperventilate and couldn’t breathe. They’re going to get me! I slowed down slightly and spun around in circles and randomly ran around the place. I couldn’t see them! It sounded like they were everywhere! How many were there?

“I smell your fear. I smell your blood…” The male voice said.

His voice sounded so close. Was he the only one? I ran in the opposite direction of his voice but it didn’t help. His footsteps were right behind me and I felt a cool breeze going down my neck. I screamed and flung my arms around hopefully to hit something. Hopefully him. I felt something hard against my forearm and heard a grudge noise that was loud in my ear. I felt two cold objects on my back and they pushed me and I fell onto the floor with a huge thud. I moaned and tried to quickly get up but I felt something hard smash into my stomach that blew the air out of my lungs. I crawled up into a ball since no air was going down my throat. I gasped and turned around to lie on my back. I vaguely saw a black figure standing above me. Clouds then floated away from the moon and some moonlight shone on him and I saw his pearly pale complexion. I screamed but he quickly put his hand over my mouth and leaned his knees right into my thighs hard so I couldn’t move. My legs stung and pain flew up and down my thighs and calves. He leaned down and I saw his blood red eyes that stared into mine. He slowly gave a snare and I saw his shiny sharp fangs. I wriggled in his grasp but just grabbed my arms with one hand and pushed them against the floor hard and dug his knees deeper into my thighs. I whimpered and he just gave a low chuckle.

“I finally have you.” Was all he said.

A figure came into view behind him and I saw that it was a female. She put her hands on her slender waist and smiled as I saw the male’s fist come in contact with my face and everything went black.
