It was a day of change; I could feel it deep within my bones.

I was buzzing with excitement; I took in a deep breath the air had a sweet musty scent to it. I slowly turned around with my arms outstretched and my head thrown back facing the sky. As far as my eye could see was a cloudless crystal clear blue sky. I lowered my head slightly and looked at the trees that I could see by the hundreds surrounding me. They were a sight to behold, beautiful lush and green they stretched towards the sky. I could feel the cool morning breeze brush against my face; I shifted till I faced north, the direction in which the breeze rushed from.

Promising secrets to be found and told.

Without a second thought I started running towards the wind, my feet pounding against the soft forest floor; creating a soft crackling of the leaves and making the occasional crunch when I ran on a small branch or twig. The wind whipped my hair around my face until it settled leaving a white carpet of hair trailing behind me. I laughed in glee at the exhilaration of running again; it was wondrous to be home, where I belonged. My vision became clearer the faster I ran; the trees appeared to bend and reach towards me as if to welcome me home.

My hearing heightened, I could hear the whispers of the trees and the cheerful sing song of the birds beginning their day. I picked up my speed and was able to smell more; dirty scents of humans who have not washed in days came across my path as well as the occasional fresh animal droppings. Adrenaline pumped through my veins as I pushed myself to the limit, straining my body to run faster, to do more to become better. My body shuddered and trembled with exertion, what started small and harmless became sharp and violent; my body rode the tremors and fought to gain control.

As sudden as it had begun they slowed and then stopped, suddenly my view of the world changed as I allowed my animal instincts to take over. It was on this day that my world changed I found it more vivid and beautiful; full of colours, sounds and similar scents but all my senses were stronger too. I could taste the air and that morning’s breakfast, fried eggs on toast with bacon. I let out a loud piercing howl and continued my run, faster this time as if before was just a warm up; I ran faster than I had ever run in my life. I was in ecstasy and didn’t even smell, hear or notice that rain clouds were creeping up on me.

The air became moist as rain started to come down, I kept on running until the clouds began to rumble and the sky lit up like a light bulb. I was enjoying my run but didn’t want to risk getting hit by the light flashing down, so I began hunting for shelter. I found a cave decorated with moss and fruit bats, I stalked inside and scouted it making sure it was safe for a small nap until the storm was over. After securing the cave and snapping at the bats telling them whose boss, I shook my coat until it was dry. I curled up on the bed of moss, pulled my coat up to my chin to keep me warm and quickly fell into a deep slumber. It was the day I returned home and my world changed for the good.
