I'm curious.

Can I be taught how to do a screamo?

Or does it depend on the type of person?

I want to be able to.

But I don't know how or if I can...

Someone help?

I think it can be taught .

But as far as I know, it's harder for girls to do it than guys because of vocal chord thingies or whatever .

And be aware that screaming can really screw up your voice

So if you're sitting there trying to scream every day

You're gonna go mute .

Just saying .

Well clearly there are girl screamers .

There's videos all over the place on "How to Scream."

Just ... find one that seems legit

Get a friend to try it

If it works

You do it too.

Just kidding

Don't make your friend do it.

If you really want to do it, go ahead. It's like skydiving. There's a chance you'll die and splat and become pigeon food, but on the offhand if you really want to do it you'll do it regardless of whether or not you might die.

You mean to say how do you scream in the same way as others working in the Screamo genre?

Keep in mind that Picture Me Broken is not in fact a Screamo band. Screamo does not actually mean any scream-heavy music. The term 'Screamo' refers to a very specific derivative of Hardcore Punk. From what I hear of Picture Me Broken, yes, it is possible that with practice you can learn to scream in the same fashion. But just for the sake of clarity, here is an example of a female vocalist screaming with a band actually playing screamo music..

Yeah, well there's a large variety of types of screaming. The first thing though is that anyone who says screaming is like inhaling and exhaling at the same time doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about. That'll do damage to your voice, won't sound very good and won't be loud enough for any sort of good recording or performance. Well I'd suggest picking up singing first, but for me screaming feels like an extension of singing clean vocals. Basically, and I think I do this all from belting notes rather than going falsetto, but when you're belting, particularly in a mid or high range your going to be using more air and getting more volume. At this point it's a whole control thing, you can make your vocals sound rougher but still in pitch by opening your mouth wider when you sing and pushing with your diaphragm. The more you push with your diaphragm the rougher you get to a certain point where it sounds like a scream rather than singing. But if you get good control of it you can go in between and get some really cool textures. Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract and Skyharbor (not emo bands but...) has good great control over this for example and can go in between screaming and singing very well.

The other thing is that what you drink is going to effect how much control you have over your voice. At a quieter level having a lot of mucus on your vocal chords can feel helpful for gutteral vocals. Actually I think some people do use it to help them out, though I'm not sure if it's proper. But especially if you're singing as well, the mucus will interfere with your vocal control. Drinking water is a good idea, it'll keep your throat wet while clearing off mucus from your vocal chords. Things like milk and sodas are going to tend to cause you to build up more mucus which is going to make control more difficult. But I think it can vary for different people, though some techniques will end up doing serious damage to your voice in the long run, I've seen videos of the technical death metal band Theory in Practice's singer recording vocals and he has a big two liter bottle of soda with him at the session. The techniques are also going to vary for what kind of result you're aiming to get. "Screamo" vocals is a weird term because it's pretty vague, and while generally I'm personally more a progressive metal, death metal and black metal guy I don't really know anyone who knows what they are talking about and uses the term screamo. There's screams, grunts, growls, black metal vocals... all sorts of things, you have to find the one that fits your style of music best. And there's a lot of variety within those as well. For example the vocals on Xerath's first and second albums are very different, but I'd consider both of them screaming.

Anyway, tl;dr open your mouth wider, push with the diaphragm and drink lots of water.

Screamo is said to ruin your voice. If you can sing or good a singing don't do too much of it, if not then go for it.

There's so many videos on youtube you can watch or listen to it and try and pick it up for yourself.
